MEET THE CHARACTERS!

Meet The Characters.jpg

WHEN I WAS A BABY . . . REVIEWS:

"We bought the book for a friend who has an unhappy toddler since a new baby sister arrived. The book is beautifully illustrated and the story will help the toddler understand he/she is loved just as much as the new baby. The book is a good conversation starter to talk about how much they are loved. We would highly recommend the book to parents and grandparents."

"My family and I absolutely love this book. With 3 children of my own it gave me an opportunity to answer all their questions about when they were babies and to remind them that they are ALL loved. We have made it a bedtime story tradition. My kids absolutely love it over and over again!!!"

"This book is just too adorable! I bought it for my Grandsons who had just welcomed a new baby brother to their home. They loved it, my daughter loved it! I highly recommend it. It's a joy to read."

"Such a sweet book! Kids of all ages will enjoy it. And they can be an only child or have 10 siblings!

"This is such a sweet book! I highly recommend it. Such a great reminder to an older sibling that they were a baby once as well."

"Adorable book! My boys who are 6yr, 4yr, and 2yr old all love it!"

THE CREATION OF HANDY ANDY!

So a few years back (yes, years!), Katey created a character that gave her comfort when she was having a bad day or for when she just needed a little companion close by. He was made out of an old latex hospital glove. Handy Andy was born!

As Kate and I worked through our plans for The Kind Kids Academy (join our group on Facebook!), we realized Handy Andy could hold so much more meaning than a sweet, imaginary friend. He was a HAND, after all, and he could symbolize all of the GOOD our hands can do and discourage all of the hurtful PAIN our hands can cause!

Once that lightbulb went off, Katey and I resolved to create a book together (I would write it and she would illustrate it) and we would share it with others as a reminder to use our hands to be KIND.

Enjoy!

WeatherX Earplugs! These babies help with shifts in barometric pressure. There’s an app that sends alerts so you are notified when to put them in. So far so good in my opinion!

Health Hack 6 - The Mighty.jpg

HEALTH HACK TIP #6:

The Mighty website is an awesome resource for anyone facing challenges related to disability, chronic illness, anxiety, depression, or life in general. Health Hack 7 - Hydration.jpg

HEALTH HACK TIP #7:

Hydration is key to so many elements of our health, BUT quite a few of us find it challenging to drink 64 oz. of H2O (or half your body weight if you want to hit a more accurate benchmark) in a 24hr period. I think a lot of this can be helped by premeasured containers- one 2 liter of sparkling water or half a gallon of drinking water represents your needed daily intake. This removes the guesswork AND it gives you a motivating visual as you get closer and closer to reaching your goal each day. This has been a tremendous help when it comes to keeping myself on track, I’m hoping it might help you, too!

Health Hack 8 - Nozbe.jpg

HEALTH HACK TIP #8:

Try using an organizational tool (Nozbe is fantastic, I’ve used it for years!) that accomplishes the following:

* Prioritization of tasks (this helps you stay focused on the important stuff first!)

* Assigning a specific amount of time needed to dedicate to each task (this is a great visual that will allow most of us to see that we’re trying to cram way too much into one day and actually setting ourselves up for failure!)

* Ability to add new tasks from anywhere via an simple-to-use app (this provides the ease of adding things to my list the moment they pop into my head and it allows me to declutter my brain from all the things I’m constantly trying not to forget!)

Health+Hack+9+-+Charcuterie+Lunch+Tray.jpg

HEALTH HACK TIP #9:

Low energy days can require us to go for a quick fix when it comes to meals. Instead of reaching for something unhealthy, try making a fun, healthy and super easy charcuterie tray! It’ll fill your belly with some good stuff and it may even give your energy level a boost!

PREP TIME: Less than 10 min

CLEAN UP TIME: Less than 10 min

This pic features an actual tray I prepared today for lunch. It also features the hand of my youngest who couldn’t stay out of it (all food shown is completely gluten and tree nut free!).

HEALTH HACK TIP #10:

Nutrition and Fitness DNA tests are an EXCELLENT way to better understand what YOUR specific body needs by way of when/what/how to eat and exercise. It’s an amazing investment into your health and a useful tool to guide your decisions you make as you move toward committing to a healthier lifestyle.

Health Hack 11 - Calm App.jpg

HEALTH HACK TIP #11:

Who doesn’t like a good bedtime story or a dose of calming meditation in the midst of a chaotic day? I have used the Calm app for over two years now and I can tell you it works like a dream :) Seriously, it is so soothing and relaxing. And, as an added bonus, my kids use it, too!

Click HERE for a link to their free trial. You won’t be disappointed!

Health+Hack+12+-+YouTube+Workout+Videos.jpg

HEALTH HACK TIP #12:

There are a number of reasons we may not have access to a gym outside of our homes. Whether it’s finances, availability of convenient locations, COVID, or something else, physical health is still a critical component of our overall wellbeing.

If you are looking to save travel time, money, and/or you simply need the convenience of working out at home, there are a ton of FREE videos on YouTube! What’s even better? There are exercise videos for your kiddos, too!

HEALTH HACK TIP #13:

Support a cause that means something to you. A college friend of mine lost her son to brain cancer in 2020. Watching his loved ones rally around him as he bravely fought hard and then watching them experience the devastation of his loss was unfathomable.

A few months later, my niece’s softball fundraiser included a coffee and tea company that supports the fight against childhood cancer. It felt so good to donate to a cause that both helped my niece advance in her sport and helped fund a cause that means so much to so many families facing the unimaginable (the products are yummy, too!) You can click the image for more info about this specific company.

Whatever your passion is, give to a cause that sparks a fire in your heart and warms your soul. Your overall health will thank you for it!

Health+Hack+14+-+Blue+Tooth+Eye+Massager.jpg

HEALTH HACK TIP #14:

I’m so happy I discovered the existence of a bluetooth eye massager. Whether you struggle with headaches or you’re just looking for a relaxing outlet, this mask is amazing. I personally get to enjoy the benefits of both.

In addition to the soothing motion of the mask, the bluetooth feature creates a peaceful and enjoyable atmosphere by easily allowing you to listen to your favorite music, sounds, meditations, audiobooks, podcasts, etc. Please excuse me while I sit back, relax, and melt into my surroundings for a while ;)

Health+Hack+15+-+Self+Care+and+Supporting+Others.jpg

HEALTH HACK TIP #15:

ONE WORD - SELF-CARE! I tackled two objectives in one here (this is NOT just for women, by the way. Men need to focus on their own versions of self-care, too). I was able to purchase products that hold themselves to a higher standard of quality in order to protect what I’m putting in my body through my skin AND I had the privilege of supporting my dear friend’s business in the process. It feels so good to know that my self-care benefits my own personal health needs and supports the efforts of someone I love, respect and trust.

Health Hack 16 - Journaling.jpg

HEALTH HACK TIP #16:

JOURNALING! You don’t have to be a writer by nature to journal. Journaling has so many health benefits including:

* A boost in your mood & reduction of stress

* Thought organization and problem prioritization

* Overall improved memory due to the way your brain connects to the act of writing something down by hand

* Release of worry

* A fueling of inspiration and creativity

FUN FACT: My recent book, The Energy Account Principle, started as a journal of my thoughts and feelings throughout my medical journey!

Health Hack 17 - MATCHA.jpg

HEALTH HACK TIP #17:

MATCHA! It can be easily prepared as a tea or added to a latte or smoothie. I personally put a half teaspoon of it in my coffee. HOLY ENERGY & FOCUS! Here are some of the many health benefits:

* It’s high in antioxidants

* It can help protect the liver

* It boosts brain function

* It may help prevent cancer

* It may promote heart health

* It helps with weight loss
